Pandemic News: Women Are Missing Important Breast Health Screenings

Since the pandemic began, providers have observed a sharp drop in the number of women who are sticking with breast cancer screening guidelines, including mammograms. “At the beginning of the pandemic, mammograms were canceled in mass, everywhere,” says Oregon Medical Group’s Imaging Manager Nick Miller. “We considered it a very temporary situation, but the thought of not catching a cancer in time is very worrisome. Breast screenings have been instrumental in improving the outcome for women with breast cancer. Mammograms and other screenings find cancer earlier. Delayed detection means delayed treatment.”

If you are a woman 40 or over and you have not had a mammogram in the past 18 months, please call your provider’s office to determine if you are due for one. If you are due, we’ll get you scheduled.
