Water Safety Reminders and Resources

We care about our patients. We care about people who are not our patients. That’s why each summer we emphasize the importance of water safety. Life jackets top our list of ‘musts’, but there are other important steps you can take to be safe aound the water. Here’s a quick run-down. • Lifejackets for all: Laws for lifejackets are specific to age and watercraft, but common sense really rules here. If you’re on any craft that takes you into water over your head (even an inch over your head!), you should wear a lifejacket. Make sure the jacket fits. • Watch your children: Kids move fast. Walk your children like a hawk. Don’t rely on others or a lifeguard.

• Boat safely: Paddling, rafting and boating of all sorts are popular Oregon activities. The Oregon State Marine Board provides good information about general safety, as well as information about water levels, reported obstructions and more.
